Soft washing runs well under five hundred psi and lets the cleaner do the work. Flatwork gets real pressure through a surface cleaner. Shingles get almost none. Running one setting across a whole property is how siding gets streaked and wood gets furred.
Heat helps on oil, grease and the black film at the bottom of a dumpster pad. It does nothing extra for algae, which is a chemistry problem rather than a temperature one. Paying for heat you do not need is a common way to overspend on this.
We will not put a pressure washer on your shingles, we will not aim a wand up under vinyl siding, and we will not run a turbo tip across a wood deck. Each of those cleans fast and costs you more later than the cleaning saved.
Asphalt is thermoplastic. It does not dissolve, it softens across a measured temperature band, and the standard test for that band runs from the eighties up past three hundred degrees. That is why heat moves tar and why cold pressure just polishes it.

Gum base keys mechanically into surface porosity rather than sticking chemically. Pressure works against the strongest part of that bond. Heat softens the base until it releases, which is why a hot unit clears a walkway that a cold one has failed at twice.
Vinyl siding is specified with slotted fasteners because it is expected to move with temperature, and the industry documents heat distortion well below the ignition point. A hot stream held on one course while the courses above stay cool is that stress.
Heat is not a biocide. Federal guidance on mold says scrub with detergent and dry completely, and sets the moisture target below sixty percent humidity. What stops regrowth is chemistry, dwell time and drainage, not water temperature.
Raleigh averages around sixty mornings a year at or below thirty two degrees, and the freeze window runs from early November into early April. Unheated wash water refreezes on the surface it just wet. A heated machine is what keeps the season open.

SIMPSON says do not operate or store below 40 degrees. Mi T M sets its freeze line at 32 and states plainly that freeze damage is not covered by warranty. Raleigh normal lows sit at or under 40 in five months of the year.
